Help for those in the path of Hurricane Helene
Our team, our fire family here in Gaston County, delivered needed supplies collected from you - our precious community - to the Bradshaw Volunteer Fire Department today, approximately 15 miles north of Burnsville. Those supplies right now are serving our bigger family with fresh water, toothbrushes, toiletries, canned foods, protein bars and even pet food. More than we can list here because your generosity was overwhelming.
What we saw on our trip in, up, over and through was utter destruction on a level not seen anywhere else. We wept by what we saw and are processing what we're feeling.
The Old North State is battered and worn but she's not down. Not by a long shot. There's hope coming from across NC and this country.
We were prayed for today that we not lose our zeal to continue to serve in the face of this epic disaster. That's the prayer that needs to be shared for all of us.
We are Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department and together we are: #luciafirestrong
Happy New Year
As we close out 2024, we wanted to share our heartfelt thanks to our members and their families both of whom make sacrifices for time and training to serve our District and Riverbend Township in such a professional manner. We couldn't do our jobs with them.We also thank the residents, businesses and churches in our District for their support over the last year. We serve because of you and for you.
Through 1700 hours today we have responded to 578 calls for service (fire, motor vehicle accidents, high angle rescue, marine responses and medical calls). Every piece of the apparatus at this station has been used in the manner for which it was built multiple times over: QRV 31, Marine Fireboat 31, Brush 317, Tanker 314, Air 31, Engine 311, Rescue 319 and Ladder 31.
2025 will also mark the 30th consecutive year of top leadership with Chief David Toomey, having served in this role since 1995. We hope to roll out plans for new facilities as well as new faces in our recruiting efforts. There will be plenty of opportunities for public visits and interactions with our department in non-emergency settings.
Stay safe this evening and even if things get a little sideways or off the rails - we're not but a phone call away. We are the Pride of Gaston County's Northeast Side. We remain #luciafirestrong.

This is a team effort built on years of tradition and experience. No one rises to the challenges without remembering where they came from and who got them there.
